The Von Frey filament is applied against the central edge of the animal's paw and paw withdrawal caused by the stimulation is registered as a response. The corresponding force applied is recorded by the system and shown on the display screen with a resolution of 0.1g. The design allows for highly reporducible data and threshold values can be obtained in a single test.
This system is designed for use with rats and includes the Von Frey unit, 10 disposable plastic tips, 1 spring tip for thresholds between 0 and 10 grams, footswitch, and carrying case. Optional data acquisition software is also available separately.
